It is of architectural and historic significance. This church, although a mixture of styles, is the most dominant and most important visual aspect of Portsmouth. The limestone was quarried by prisoners and the church named after St. Dismas, the thief crucified with Christ. The large bell tower and the pattern of crosses on the sharply pitched roof are especially notable.Statement of cultural heritage value, from City of Kingston — Heritage Properties
